Bey DIL

We are kicking the first day off with Beyoncé 's debut solo album, Dangerously in Love .

Dangerously in Love was released on June 22, 2003, Beyoncé's first album as solo artist. The album was recorded from 2002-2003, before Beyoncé's previously disbanded girl group, Destiny's Child, reunited for one last project.

Release[]

In the first week of sales, DIL sold an impressive 317,000 copies, establishing Beyoncé as a strong force in the industry as a solo artist. These massive sales launched DIL straight to number one on the Billboard 200, the first of Beyoncé's four consecutive number-one albums.

To date, the album has been certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA in the United States, with shipments of over 4 million copies, and approximately 10 million shipments worldwide. The 15-track collection was an international success.

Singles[]

The lead single for the album, Crazy in Love (featuring husband Jay-Z) was released on May 20, 2003, and was an instant commercial success, but reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 mostly on radio spins.

Dangerously in Love spawned multiple top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including Baby Boy, Me, Myself & I, and Naughty Girl, peaking at numbers 1, 4, and 3, respectively.

Awards[]

In addition to hit singles, Dangerously in Love struck gold with various awards. In summary, the album scored a total of 7 awards between the MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, and the MTV Video Music Awards Japan, a total of 5 Grammy Awards, and also 2 BET Awards. Not bad for a debut album, right?
